Halloween 2008 - Last week at Jackie's

For my final week at Jackie's, I ended with my favourite part of working there: the Halloween party. Funny how the good and the bad kind of juxtapose themselves.

Halloween is a great holiday. I always remember the excitement of running around town with my brother, mom and dad when I was little. Brandon and I'd stay out for hours collecting candy. Except for one year, I trick-or-treated from when I was two to 18 (and I did a couple neighbours' houses that skipped year). Halloween's one of those holidays for me that didn't get mucked up by the people around me, so it's still as exciting as back when I was small.

I usually like making my own costume, but this year, I was under a lot of stress. There is, however, a great costume shop in my neighbourhood, so I found the best costume ever:
Na na! Batgirl! Say hello, Batgirl and Robin! :P
I also nabbed a couple photos of some students I will miss. Here's me with Charles and Richard.

I also had a couple girls in a higher-level class for the entire time I worked there. The cowboy is Gloria, and Sohyun didn't make it to the class later in the week, so we're being casual in the second photo.

Jackie's caters to a certain elevated degree of nouveau riche study-obsessed parent, so mostly we aren't allowed to laugh or play with the students, because it detracts from studying time. Not so for Halloween. Some of the teachers organized a games floor, where the classes went from room to room playing games and collecting candy. I was subtituting for another teacher, and I took these kids to the "mummy wrapping" room in Jorge's class.

I also am proud to say that I used my class' time wisely and went for the extended play trick-or-treat song. This class did a great job (^^)

Steve gave me a lot of flack for this, commenting on how I'd really Canadianized it. I don't really know any other versions though! What was I supposed to do?

Ryan really did a great outfit one day (the Halloween stuff runs for three days). He's being the ultimate BC stereotype: trucking hat, bad stache, and wolf shirt. That's like, great man. Got any Players Light?
Trick-or-treat! Smell my feet! Give me something good to eat!
